A shocking discovery stunned residents of Alappuzha, Kerala, after a beggar who died following a road accident was found to be carrying more than Rs 4.5 lakh in cash.
The incident occurred on Monday night when the man, known locally as Anil Kishore, met with an accident in the Charummoodu area and suffered injuries. Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, but without informing the hospital authorities, Kishore reportedly left on his own.
On Tuesday morning, his body was found outside a shop. Police later shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination. A container found near the body was taken to the police station for inspection.
When officials opened the container in the presence of local panchayat member Philip Umman, they were stunned to find it filled with cash amounting to over Rs 4.5 lakh. The money included banned Rs 2,000 notes and even some foreign currency, stored inside plastic tins.
According to locals, Kishore was a familiar face in the area and survived by begging daily for food expenses. No one suspected that he possessed such a large sum of money.
Police said the recovered cash will be handed over to the court, regardless of whether any family members come forward to claim it. The incident has left the local community shocked and full of unanswered questions.
