INDIAN MOUNTAINEERS CONQUER MEXICO’S HIGHEST PEAK IN A HISTORIC DECEMBER ASCENT

Standing tall at 5,636 metres, the peak is the highest mountain in Mexico and the tallest volcano in North America

Marking a moment of national pride, a team of Indian mountaineers led by renowned high-altitude climber Narendra Kumar successfully reached the summit of Pico de Orizaba in December 2025. Standing tall at 5,636 metres (18,491 feet), the peak is the highest mountain in Mexico and the tallest volcano in North America.

Known for its thin air, icy slopes, and unpredictable weather, Pico de Orizaba is considered one of the toughest climbs and a key training ground for those aiming to complete the Volcanic Seven Summits challenge.

Sharing the achievement on Instagram, Narendra Kumar captured the spirit of the expedition with the words: “Step by step, breathe by breath… summit tak ka safar.”

The team reached the summit of Pico de Orizaba via the Jamapa Glacier route, starting from the Piedra Grande refuge—a demanding trail that typically takes 7–8 hours to ascend.

The climb required advanced technical expertise, including the use of crampons and ice axes, along with precise navigation across glaciers, slippery rocks, and fresh snow. Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination, the Indian climbers completed the ascent safely and successfully, adding another glorious chapter to India’s mountaineering achievements.
