Delhi Police detained Protesting Wrestlers, attempted to march towards New Parliament

The protesting wrestlers in Jantar Mantar, which is roughly two kilometres away from the parliament building, vowed to proceed with their "Mahila Mahapanchayat" close to the new structure at all costs.

Delhi Police detained protesting wrestlers, who were staging a protest at Jantar Mantar were stopped by the Delhi Police as they attempted to march towards the new Parliament.

Police also cleared the Jantar Mantar protest location after the detention of the wrestlers and their supporters.

Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik posted a tweet saying “Delhi Police has detained the wrestlers”. Sakshi Malik’s team members posted on a tweet from her account.

Videos showed a fight break out between the wrestling protesters and police officers, even as the former tried to resist.

The protesting wrestlers in Jantar Mantar, which is roughly two kilometres away from the parliament building, vowed to proceed with their “Mahila Mahapanchayat” close to the new structure at all costs.

“Mahapanchayat will certainly be held today. We’re fighting for our self-respect.They’re inaugurating the new Parliament building today, but murdering democracy in the country.We appeal to the administration to release our people detained by police,” wrestler Bajrang Punia said.
