“Jaishankar should take it up strongly”, depicting Indira Gandhi’s killing showing viral clip in Canada event: Jairam Ramesh
A social media clip of a parade float portraying the Canadian killing of former prime leader Indira Gandhi has ignited a huge uproar. The extremist pro-Khalistani parade in the North American nation’s Brampton city, which has recently seen an increase in anti-India sentiment.
The incident has evoked strong reactions in India, with the Narendra Modi government also registering its protest with its Canadian counterpart. Here’s what all happened at the Canadian event.
The parade took place in Ontario’s Greater Toronto area, according to media reports. On June 4, days before the 39th anniversary of “Operation Bluestar,” the march was purportedly staged by pro-Khalistani activists.
On this behalf, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted against the Canadian authorities, “I entirely agree! This is despicable and @DrSJaishankar should take it up strongly with the Canadidan authorities.
Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, leader of the Damdami Taksal and a separatist, and his followers were expelled from the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984 thanks to the Indian military operation known as Operation Bluestar. Months after the military operation, Indira Gandhi was killed by her two Sikh bodyguards.
