POLICE BUST ALLEGED PROSTITUTION RACKET IN JORHAT, 15 HELD
Preliminary findings suggest that hotel rooms were allegedly being used to facilitate prostitution activities.

A police raid conducted at Hotel Orbit on Jorhat Bypass in Assam has uncovered an alleged prostitution racket on Monday night. Jorhat Police carried out the operation based on some information and detained several individuals from the premises.
During the raid, police reportedly apprehended 15 persons – eight men and seven women. Preliminary findings suggest that hotel rooms were allegedly being used to facilitate prostitution activities.
According to the investigators, WhatsApp was being used as a medium to contact clients and negotiate rates. Sources claim that a woman identified as Pegu allegedly played a major role in coordinating the operations and arranging meetings between clients and women involved in the racket.
Police are further examining whether members of the hotel management were aware of or directly connected to, the alleged activities.
The owner of Hotel Orbit is also being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the possible existence of organised prostitution networks operating through hotels and lodges in and around Jorhat.
Assam Police have also stated that the investigation is continuing to identify other individuals linked to the case and to determine the full extent of the alleged racket.
