WORLD CUP WINNER CRICKETER UMA CHETRY FAILS TO ATTRACT BIDS IN WPL 2026 AUCTION

UMA’S NAME IS LIKELY TO COME UP AGAIN IN THE FINAL ROUND OF THE AUCTION

India’s World Cup–winning wicketkeeper Uma Chetry surprisingly went unsold in the WPL 2026 Auction, a result that has shocked many cricket fans and analysts. The Assam-born cricketer first entered the league in 2024 as an injury replacement for the UP Warriorz Women. Since then, she has played nine WPL matches, scoring 80 runs with a highest score of 24.

Currently regarded as India’s second-choice wicketkeeper behind Richa Ghosh, Chetry was widely expected to draw multiple bids due to her growing reputation and strong domestic performances. Many predicted her WPL 2026 price to reach a significant amount, but she did not receive a single bid in the initial rounds.

However, all hope is not lost. Chetry’s name is likely to come up again in the final round of the auction, offering her another chance to be picked. Known for her talent, agility, and composure behind the stumps, she remains one of India’s most promising young cricketers and could still make a major impact if selected later in the process.

On the other hand, BCCI has confirmed that the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will take place in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara from January 9 to February 5. WPL Chairman Jayesh George on Thursday announced the dates and venues during the mega auction in New Delhi.
