HYDERABAD METRO APPOINTS 20 TRANSGENDER SECURITY PERSONNEL, SETS NEW BENCHMARK FOR SAFETY
The Metro continues to adopt proactive and capacity-building measures to uplift commuter experience.

Hyderabad Metro, one of India’s most advanced and extensive urban transit systems, has taken a landmark step towards inclusivity by appointing 20 transgender persons as security personnel. They officially joined duty at selected Metro stations on December 1, after completing rigorous Induction Security Training.

This initiative is part of Hyderabad Metro’s commitment to enhance the safety and comfort of women passengers, while strengthening the overall safety ecosystem across its network. Operating across three corridors with 57 stations, the Metro continues to adopt proactive and capacity-building measures to uplift commuter experience.
The engagement of transgender personnel marks a historic moment in the Metro’s journey toward creating a safe, inclusive, and commuter-friendly environment. Their presence is expected to significantly reinforce frontline services and boost confidence among passengers, especially women.
The key responsibilities are –
- Strengthening safety measures in general areas and ladies-only coaches
- Assisting passengers with directions, information, and on-ground support
- Monitoring baggage scanner operations for smooth and secure movement
- Maintaining a visible and reassuring security presence across station premises
- Contributing to a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment within the Metro network
