Massive landslide in Uttarakhand, shuts down Badrinath National Highway

A massive  landlside at Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand, India, was shut down once more on Saturday. On Friday morning, the route was once again closed but later reopened for traffic.

Due to severe and persistent rain, the Badrinath National Highway 7 (NH-7) in the Chamoli district has been closed for the past 13 hours near Lambagad and Khachada drains. Numerous commuters have been impacted by the shutdown, including tourists and pilgrims going to and from the well-known Badrinath shrine.

Many people are currently stranded along the route as a result. According to ANI, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started working to clean the road of debris, reopen the route, and guarantee that drivers can travel safely.

A landslide occurred at the same spot and the Badrinath National Highway was blocked earlier in the week as a result of flash floods and landslides brought on by heavy rains in Uttarakhand.

A 100-meter stretch of the highway was obstructed due to a landslide around 9:50 am from a hill near Chhinka on Thursday morning, triggered by heavy rainfall. After more than 17 hours of closure, the Badrinath National Highway was reopened for traffic on Friday morning. Throughout the night, numerous pilgrims were forced to spend the night in their vehicles as a result of the blockade.
