Stampede at Haridwar’s Manasha Devi Temple, 6 dead

6 people were killed and numerous others were injured in the stampede at a temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on Sunday. A video showed people trapped in the chaos being frantically asked to leave as the crowd grew from all directions.

Hundreds of devotees arrived on Sunday to offer prayers at the hilltop Manasha Devi temple in Haridwar, when a rush broke out at around nine in the morning.

Police claimed that the stampede started because of claims that there was an electric current that pushed people into a panic near the temple’s stairway.
