Guwahati reels under sweltering heat as the maximum temperature shot up to 37.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday April 16

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati reported that the maximum temperature reached 37.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, April 16, leaving the city in searing heat.

On the other side, Guwahati’s minimum temperature, which was 1 degree higher than the typical minimum, was 22 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature on Sunday was similarly 4–7 degrees higher than average in other parts of Assam.

Lumding recorded the temperature to be 40.6 degrees Celsius.

As the temperature has climbed over the past seven days, Guwahati and other areas of the state have been suffering from extremely hot and humid weather.

Earlier this month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that most regions of the country are expected to experience a gradual increase in temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next few days.

The forecast came just a month after the weather department predicted that most parts of India are expected to experience above-normal maximum temperatures from April to June.

Meanwhile, RMC Guwahati on Monday predicted light rain with lightning in some districts of Assam in the next 24 hours.
